Lately, I’ve been going to a lot of author readings, signings, and events around New York City. Although I’ve been pretty bad about blogging and uploading pictures of said events, I’ve been having an absolute blast meeting awesome authors, publicists, editors, and fellow book bloggers!
Last week I had the honor of being invited to a wonderful Tea Party at Lady Mendl’s Tea Salon to celebrate Bianca Turetsky’s debut novel, The Time-Traveling Fashionista.
First of all, I want to express to you all how talented and wonderful Bianca truly is. This was the second time I met her and she is just an absolute doll! Not only is her fashion sense impeccable and vintage fabulous, her sweet-nature and enthusiasm for her book make her so much fun to hang out with! She is currently writing the follow-up to The Time-Traveling Fashionista, the second book in a hopefully long series of books!

Secondly, The Inn at Irving Place was the perfect venue for the event. As soon as I walked into this hidden gem, I felt as though I was magically transported back into time. The furniture is antique and gorgeous, each piece speaking volumes.
As an added bonus, the gorgeous illustrations by Sandra Suy that are featured in Bianca’s book were blown up and displayed around the tea salon:

As if that weren’t enough, they served us delicate finger sandwiches, scrumptious scones with clotted cream, and the most delicious jasmine tea. Yum!
I also got to hang out with some of my favorite book bloggers, Rachael from The Book Muncher and Mitali from Alley of Books. Always a good time with these two!
The ambiance was absolutely spot-on for the novel, which is about a 12-year-old girl named Louise Lambert who is transported back in time via a powdery pink gown.
[Please note: my review of the The Time-Traveling Fashionista is forthcoming. Since the book is technically "middle grade," I've decided to have my 11-year-old sister read and review the book with me as a guest post. And well, let's face it, fifth grade is hard, so we're working on the upcoming review(s) one day at a time!]
Luckily, I was able to snag a *signed* copy of the The Time-Traveling Fashionista plus two fashionista luggage tags to giveaway to you all! There will be two winners: one winner of the book and a tag, and one winner of just a luggage tag.
This giveaway is US only and ends on May 31, 2011. [THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED]

That tea party looked like so much fun! Looked like such a fun event. And this book sounds so cute!
Hah! I cannot live without my many pairs of cowboy boots so I will have to give my favorite pair some magic powers. I don’t know exactly what it would be but they will be extra special with magic.

I think I would like my socks to have magical powers.
My favourite piece of clothing is a full length evening cloak that my grandmother made for me when I was about 20 (decades ago).
When I was a student I always wore it to parties. Everybody always admired it on arrival, and it kept me warm and dry walking home afterwards. (It is wool, lined with silk satin and has a good).
I think that it really is magical – because it works today as well as it did all those years ago.
When my daughter had her 18th birthday, I had a dressmaker copy my cloak so that she could experience to pleasure of a magical garment.
Wow, that cloak sounds truly enchanting! I wish I had something so special and meaningful to wear and pass on. How sweet of you to share the cloak with your daughter, Pat!

My favorite piece of clothing –my slippers. I wish they had magical power to get me going in the morning as soon as I step out of bed. Wish they could make me hop out of bed and skip to the bathroom.
I hear you, Kitty! I often feel that way about my own shoes!
Thanks for the giveaway!

And finally- the question. How do you expect me to choose one piece of clothing? hahaha, since I can’t exactly choose one, I’ll just have to say I wish my dresses had magical powers (to make me look skinnier! lol!)
Thanks for the giveaway!

My favorite piece of clothing that I wish had magical powers, is a Pashmina shawl that my deceased grandmother left me. It is a combination of sea green, and emerald green with cylindrical glass beads adorning the four edges of the shawl. It matches my eyes, which happen to seem somewhat green, but are actually just hazel with specks of green – and is very comfortable and warm. Every time I wear it, I am reminded of her warmth and her kind ways, it makes me feel much closer to my grandmother; so in some ways, I suppose it is already magical!

What’s your favorite piece of clothing that you wish had magical powers?
Do earrings count? Because earrings don’t wear out as easily as shoes or a shirt, and I can wear them all the time without looking conspicuous!! (I mean, you don’t see someone wear the same shirt all the time, do you?)
