Book Art: How Artists Use Books To Make Art!

I started my YA Genre Drama class tonight and I’m glad to announce that it’s great so far! Since I’m busy reading like mad (and will be for a while!), I thought I’d post something fun and interesting for you all to enjoy.

As an avid collager and reader, I thought, what better way to have fun with this post than with a collage of book art? I don’t know about you, but I love seeing ways that people get creative with books. I hope you find the below pictures as interesting as I do!

So happy to hear that the YA Drama class is great, would love to hear what you are reading in that. Just got some great ideas for what to do with all those old encyclopedias that I need to get rid of – art teacher here they come!

Thanks so much, Beryl!! I am happy to share my syllabus and books with you at any time! I wrote a post here about what books I initially thought I would be reading, but the class is tiny and so we’re now switching some around. I’ll keep you posted! I’m sure the art teacher will find the books super fun material!

I know, I do too, Rebecca! That one and the one before it (with the girls in the lit-up trees) are by Su Blackwell, an amazing artist indeed! :)

my favorite three were the building (although I don’t remember Charlotte’s Web being so thick, The Sea Monster, and the anatomy one. Great finds!

The building is the Kansas City Public Library’s parking garage, Budd. And you’re right, Charlotte’s Web was small and blue and 120 pages max! The Octopus one is a fantastic ad for Anagram Bookshop in Prague, Czech Republic. And the anatomy one is by Brian Dettmer who is simply mind-blowing!! He’s got more stuff if you’re interested.

  6. This is lovely, engaging and fascinated – shows how faceted and complicated art can be. Usually artists are creative in more than only one way and this proves it.

Absolutely amazing! Though I’m not sure if I’ll be flattered or insulted if someone cut up my book to turn it into a piece of art…:)

  11. Awesome! Makes me wish I had that sort of talent.
